'Cause Java is great to manager the DataBase using the JPA resources, gaining time and precision. Besides that, if you develop already thinking about webservices for REST API, Java is very powerful and consolidate, for create solutions quickly and with security.
Obs: I don't know enough about Python to compares to PHP.

php is best when you a experinced pesrson in this if you are a beginner then python is best becuse is easy to learn and easy to use and frameworks are also fast for python.
