First of all, you need to see what requirements your Webhost has. They may require you to purchase, or in some cases make, a https certificate through them, which you would do through your customer hosting portal. Some hosts allow third party https certificates, in which case you can make a free https certificate and enter the credentials into your hosting dashboard. Free certificates typically expire within 60, 90 or 180 days (depending on the vendor), and so to be hassle free and save time, it may be best to purchase a certificate through your host, if money is not an issue. If you do not own your domain, and are not paying for hosting, most likely you are then using a subdomain, and are not eligible to get a https certificate.

Well, I personally use HostGator for most of my sites, although I've used others, and still do for some things. I don't necessarily recommend HostGator above any other Webhost, it's just that they are cheapest for my applications. Other good hosts are Blue Host, Dream Host, GoDaddy, etc., and I'm sure you have some decent local hosts in India as well, which may be good if your wanting to use a localized domain. Once you set your hosting package up, you then need to follow the step by step instructions from your host on how to set up and activate your SSL certificate. Hope that helps.
