In it’s simplest form, both SAS and MatLab are analysis platforms - SAS for statistical data and MatLab for Mathematical data...
But... When taken to thire best - Both can produce programing, in ways that are higher than any “regular” programing language can reach...
There are Statistical and Mathematical programs that can be written only with these two...

I think you sould learn what you are interested in. I know a lot of programing and scripting labguages, (and a lot of spoken languages too;-) ) but that doesn’t matter. Your focus should go to your intersts and not to others...
If you don’t know anything about programing, and you want to get into this world, I think C and Python are good starting points... HTML is eiseaer then both of them, but HTML. is a markup (sort of scripting) language and NOT programing...

In here, there are Ruby (which I just finished looking at...), JavaScript, PHP, C# and Swift. Not here are Fortran, perl, SAS (which is based on Fotran and C), Matlab, Assembly, ASP, Lisp, Visual Basic, Objective-C and Verilog.
Next, I think I will read the curse on Kotlin here...
I am a kind of solo learner and I am like that since I know myself...

An example: andrew wiles did not use a computer when he solved, in 1993, Farmat’s last theorem... But if you try puting his solution in a modern computer today, you can’t do it without MatLab or somthing very close to it... There is no way you can put it in any “regular” oopl... You will just be done with resources in less then half a minute...
