What language to begin with?

After learning HTML, HTML5, & CSS, what should I learn next? C++, C, Java script etc.? I was originally thinking Java script, but have been seeing a lot of people recommend starting with C++. Any advice?

agree with Erick and DFX. JS first to complete your ability to make websites (JS will add interactivity) , then do Python.

Wiliams post excellent....coding is a group/team activity now, get with a group if you can. Even 1 other person, pair programming, just use one laptop or desktop for the 2 of you. Switch off being at the kb.

if you would like to create websites:
- html -> css -> javascript -> php
if you want to learn programming:
- python
or
- c -> c++

first off you should definitely learn all if you can, so, while JavaScript should be easier to start up with and will help use html as a markup language, learning C first can really make C++ much easier, and vice versa.

Thanks! I started on HTML and CSS, and they make a fair amount of sense to me. I've been trying to figure out what is the best way to continue to keep myself motivated.

I'd definitely go with Javascript if you already know HTML & CSS. These 3 languages combined (yes, I know HTML is not a "real" programming language before anyone tries to nerd burn me lol) are perfect for Web Development while C++ is best used for programming other stuff like video games, computer apps, Operating Systems, etc

Definitely go with C++ if what you want to do is best used with C++, though

Keeping yourself motivated is relatively easy in the sense that your desire to keep your passion for coding must still remain in your heart.
So you can motivate yourself by joining a group of friends who code or would love to code, get yourself to do real projects and enjoy its effect, or take a look at people who have been successful as programmers, Zukerburg for examples or better still watch movies where codes and programming are used in thrilling fashion like Mr.Robot(hacking), Scorpion(sci-fiction involving science and computers), Silicon-valley(comedy involving coders).

I know how you feel, I live a good distance from the city limits, and was thinking about maybe starting a group for beginner coders and programmers on discord or Google Hangouts, would anyone be interested?

Yeah, I live in a town of about 13,000, but I haven't been able to find any coding groups, except the one that is in the opposite direction of any traveling I do.

That could be interesting, I've never heard if Discord and have never really used Hangouts much, but it could be a fun thing to try maybe.

Yes, I've been trying to get one of my friends more interested in coding, as it's much more fun to bounce ideas off someone who knows what you're talking about. Unfortunately the closest group of coders I know of is about 40 miles away, as I live in a fairly rural area. I do follow a number of coding pages on various social media, which always helps to motivate me.

Thanks! That's what I've been seeing. I'm taking a Desktop Publishing class this coming semester, and I know we are creating web sites. That's part of the reason I've been leaning towards starting with Javascript, as it's very web focused.

If you already know HTML and CSS you might as well learn javascript. The three go together beautifully. After that I would suggest PHP, it is also very web focused, integrates with HTML, and works as a server side language.
