Which backend language would you suggest a beginner? Please answer honestly. 😜😀

Hey coder friends, I think I'm well prepared with the frontend part by now and I'm wondering what you personally would recommend me as backend language. Which one has real potential? Opinions and experiences please. 😊 Greetings!

Matthew Stahlke Thank you for your reply! I'm thinking about a good backend language for webdevelopment. Someone else told me to use php and something about the zend framework. Another one Ruby on rails. So I'm a bit confused now and I think it's a bit of a matter of taste too. I just need to read and learn more. 😊

I couldn't recommend PHP out of the blue because I don't know what you are trying to achieve. Client Software needs a backend too and can't be coded in PHP therefor I would recommend python because you can write backend client software for every OS and with Django also Web Applications

Depends on your priorities. Python is perhaps the fastest growing and most popular language right now. It's also very beginner-friendly and easy to learn. So I think it's an excellent choice. Php is the web standard of the previous decade, in slow decline. However, it still drives 80% of the entire web, and it's the language behind Wordpress which is still a growing market. Ruby on rails also seems to be fading into oblivion. Java has a pretty steep learning curve for beginners and it's mainly for Android. For web there are better choices imho. In general I think it's best to pick mature but growing technologies over declining ones, but I also love using php for rapid prototyping via wordpress plugin development. I'd go with Python.
