Why does the XP I can get from winning challenges decrease over time?

Question

Currently, I find that I may gain only a single XP point from winning Python challenges, whereas I remember it as once being over thirty - at times. Why is this?

It depends on the XP you have for a given language to the other.
If you have more xp in Python for example you may only gain 1 XP plus bonus for winning.
If you lose such challenges you lose 32XP.
