Is a raspberry pi worth it?

I'm planning to buy a raspberry pi soon. I heard you can learn a lot of stuff from it. Right now, I do know the basics of python so I can start using it. So what do I learn from it and how powerful is it?

Knowing Python may come in useful but isn't required. Python just comes preinstalled with the operating systems on most Pis. Learning to use Linux is more helpful since it typically comes with Rasbian or NOOBS, which are Linux operating systems. As for power, you won't be playing any real hardcore games on it, but it can handle a fair amount of work. But in my opinion the coolest part about it is that it is a development board, so you can add many types of modules to do neat things. Look at Arduino and how that works. Finally, is it worth it? Yes. Without a doubt. Given the cost to get set up should be $50 or less, it's well worth it.

my favorite use for a raspberry pi is making a RetroPi .. tiny system for play NES roms and dozens of other old school videogame systems.. I love my various Pi projects. the pi is limited only by your imagination

is it worth it? in the 50$ price range is one of the best options with definitely the most documentation. Being it basically a linux computer, if you happen to have old pc lieing around, you may want to try installing debian/ubuntu mate to get a feeling of how using the pi looks like. If you desperately need GPIO you can connect a 4$ arduino clone via USB.
