What is the benefit of the Adobe Certification Exams (ACE) and what is involved for getting certified?

On a personal level, the only benefit I have seen and experienced with my certifications are more in a entrance to the job market. If an employer sees that you are certified using these softwares; you have not only evidence justifying your resume but a higher chance and being accepted for the job. Now I am in the middle of completing my Master's Degree in Computer Science. I should be eligible for graduation next May. When I graduated from The Bachelor level I included a minor in Education. I would like to be an higher education educator and I know having these certifications and others including the ones from Microsoft or the CompTIA will assist me for my ideal occupation for the future.
Now just in case person who view this post don't comprehend the concept of a person who has earned these certifications; an Adobe Certified Expert is simply a person who has demonstrated proficiency with Adobe's software products by passing one or more product-specific proficiency exams set by Adobe, themselves.
You could find the exams to be certified here https://training.adobe.com/certification/exams.html and these certifications don't ever expire once you have acquired them; although, ACE exams are continually evaluated and updated to ensure content remains relevant.
If you notice each exam cost $180 USD. If for whatever reason you happen to fail the exam(s) you are unable to ask Adobe for a refund. You could however, retake or register for the exam again within two or three weeks after your failed exam date. You are allowed up to three exam attempts for any exam annually. Unfortunately, each attempt will incur a separate exam fee. As well as sometimes Adobe will give out discounts to lower the price for each exam. I believe I took my second exam with a 33% off making it like $120 USD I had to pay for the exam.
Now if you are interested in getting taking any of these, I would highly recommend you study to the best of your abilities. As well it should be noted that Adobe does offer training courses to assist you.

So... the question is pretty bad. First, I always work on the original, but I backup the original with a version number to keep a local history of progression. However, on project critical assets, I use version control instead and don't bother with local backups. I would consider version control to be the best practice.
Another question I disagreed with was one asking the keyboard shortcut for different tools:
Black Arrow (Selection Tool)
White Arrow (Direct Selection Tool)
Pen
Rectangle
Type
At first glance, the "Black Arrow" name is ambiguous. Both the Move Tool (V) and Path Selection Tool (A) are black arrows. But, to make things even more confusing, they say it's the "Selection Tool". Well, IIRC the Marquee (M) tool is also a selection tool and is a black arrow cursor until you start selecting.
And what the heck do they mean by "Rectangle"? Is that the Marquee (M), Shape (U), Crop (C), or any number of other icon with a rectangle in it? LOL
I do hope Adobe has better quality questions. 😉

Wow... Thanks for the practice test. How similar is this to the real test?
Silly questions like "Which is the best practice for artwork?" will be hit or miss for me. This test had several duplicates, so I picked different answers for this one.
a) There are no best practices.
b) Save frequently
c) Work from a copy to avoid losing the original.
I ended up scoring 95% missing 3 out of 55 questions on the 1st test.

Thanks for the details. If you only knew the amazing workflow automations we've implemented as microservices for asset management purposes using Illustrator and Flash. It would make your head spin. 🙃
I am curious how I would do on some of these tests with minimal preparation based on the many years I've worked with Adobe and even Macromedia products. 😜

David Carroll Yes, oh believe me I may have an idea. Of course, I don't mind at all sharing that information. I tried to make an edit to express that information because I couldn't type and drive at the same time. I had to take my 8 year old son to school. But, the four Adobe certifications that I own are from Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

David Carroll That is really amazing, yes you should definitely go out and take this exam to get the certification, of course with a bit more practice to get familiarized with the type of questions that are going to be on the exam. The practice exams are quite similar to the real thing on most occasions. The answer to that question would be C) work from a copy to avoid losing the original. You are right, it would be a hit and miss type of question. Saving frequency would have been a good answer as well but I believe working from the original is just bad habit to have due to auto saving and all.
