Is there any short way to improve self-learning programming?

I'm learning programming by python which may help me handle data analysis for later research works, but the progress is not very ideal, and I have to start working on graduating paper, which will cut my times into pieces and may not available much time to learn programming. could anyone give me some advices? Is there any short way to improve self-learning progress status ? thanks.

What I do is challenges here and else where, help people with coding, do any small projects that come to mind even how trivial they might seem.

SoloLearn Python course is a MUST. Speaking about some specific, i'd suggest to look at www.datacamp.com site wich has a free Intro to Python for Data Science course.
