[SUGGESTION] Penalise Down-Voters

I notice lots of threads where _all_ answers get a -1 even though most are correct. Perhaps when someone successively down-votes answers that nobody else does or that were +1'd, there should be a karma for that user: -5% XP. I'm suggesting this because nobody wants the full transparency I suggested. Your thoughts?

Agreed. The downvote feature is currently being worked on by SoloLearn. I'm unsure of whether they will remove it or update it, but they are aware that its cons outweigh its pros.

J.G. I actually meant the answers to posts. If someone posts a question and an answer tells him to do some stuff which is actually the wrong thing to do it should be downvotable. A huge problem nowadays is that many people are unable to handle criticism. They see opposing statements as a personal attack against them. You can't even criticise your own content anymore without the risk of receiving a shit storm because you opposed someone's opinion. Being unable to handle criticism is a very bad weakness in my opinion. Constructive criticism should be used to improve yourself and not seen as an attack. And criticism which doesn't have any value should be simply discarded as garbage rather than taking it too personally.

Alex Good point. We really need it for posts specifically. What about answers to posts? would you keep downvotes for that? All we can do currently is hope that people don't abuse the system, and that if they see something wrong in a post, they will post a response about it. How does such system work on other sites?

James This is already being worked on by the SoloLearn developers, as I've mentioned in one of my previous responses to a separate thread. Also, a percentage of the mods already have the power that you've mentioned.

Update 2.0.6: - Added new badges: -> Toxic user: downvote all posts in 5 threads. -> This is madness!: downvote 5 highly upvoted answers -> Stalker: downvote 10 sequential posts of a single user -> Get a life: downvote all codes from a single user with at least 50 codes -> Public enemy: receive 20 downvotes for a post

don't stop there, remove the ability to up-vote your own comments. your not special and just because you also had an opinion doesn't mean you should like it to get it noticed. don't be a child. let it rise on its own merit

The system need only punish down-voters based on _metrics_: *. Down-voting n posts successively. *. Down-voting all posts in the same thread. *. Serially down-voting N posts of the same user or group of users. *. Down-voting N posts that have been up-voted successively. I think behaviour metrics would detect and eliminate one of the bigger problems of ill-willed users and also automated accounts. Since ~90%+ of people worry about XP, they'd stop -1'ing entire threads. It's not perfect, but it's a solution. It could be applied to up-voters who +1 to get +1's in return.

No penalty, but in my opinion it would be better to also display the downvoters and not just the upvoters. If you let people throw their stones from the backrow some of them will do it for fun or out of boredom. This wouldn't be full transparency. We're on the internet after all. If you (as a person) want to totally hide your bad behaviour give yourself a nickname like h4xx0r_Xx

Jan Markus Yeah codes shouldn't be downvotable. But for posts it's ok imo. When a post is giving bad advices or is simply wrong it's good to be able to downvote them.

Alex they probably don't display downvoters because let's say that we have two people who get angry very quickly. The first one downvotes the second one. The second one sees it and gets upset and downvotes some of the first's posts. And then the first one does the same. What I'm trying to say is it wouldn't be good because then we'd be in an endless loop of downvoting. And what Jan said would also be good for an educational app like this.

I downvote that Alex. Why? Because making it badges makes it a goal. downvoting would run rampant thru SL
