Contact other mods to and try to discuss the issue to make sure there isn't a misunderstanding. If this does not resolve your issue, voice your concern to SL through the support mail. info@sololearn.com Speaking out of concern, may I know if there is an issue going on? We do not take lightly towards any case of harassment. Moderators abide to guidelines and are fully responsible for their actions in the community.

Hi John James 1st: First, let me say how much I appreciate you posting this question and commend you for the courage to speak up. Otherwise, I would never have known the affect I left on you in our conversation a week ago. With that said, I want to sincerely apologize for my insensitive response to you in the other thread. In retrospect, I made a mistake and was out of line. Throughout that day, I had fallen into a mode where I was engaging on several threads with various people, including that one, as a fellow community member. However, in reality, I'm not "just" a fellow member. I'm also an official moderator in a community consisting of members of all ages, experiences, and cultures. I should have considered how the intended humor of my sarcasm could have been misperceived as intimidating, threatening, and rude. Considering you posted this question a week after we had this exchange, I can only imagine that you were quite upset with my response and have been struggling with either letting it go or addressing it with the community. Many would NOT have brought this up in fear of backlash from a “rude” moderator. Rest assure, I applaud you and support you for coming forward. As a volunteer moderator in this community, it is my responsibility to earn your trust, to protect our members from harassment, and to enforce the rules with fairness and objectivity. While I believe I've successfully accomplished this with others, I let you down you as a moderator. It is my hope that you will accept my apology and allow me to earn your trust moving forward. At the very least, I commit to you, that future responses to you and others will be delivered with respect and care.

Stand up for yourself and speak your mind; within reason and rationale. You're both humans, so communicate with one another. If they're rude to you, point that out to them and make sure they're aware that they were being rude. As they say, we teach others how to treat us. You don't have to be rude or a jerk back to them in order to stand your ground and stand up for yourself. Be respectable, but don't allow others to disrespect you. Usually things can be worked out with a little communication and honesty.

@Hatsy Rei I wouldn't say harassment, it was just a moderator that scorned me for expressing a different opinion than his. But as he stopped there isn't a need to contact SoloLearn mail. Guys, Thank you all for helping here ☺

Chances are quite high that this is just a misunderstanding. Sometimes someone seems to be rude, although he/she didn't meant to be. This can have several reasons. Undetected sarcasm, language barriers, cultural differences are just a few reasons. Did you ever heard of the Paris Syndrome? It's a kind of culture shock some people get when they visit Paris. Theire expectations and the reality are extremely different. Japanese tourists get this more often than tourists from other regions. And the main reason for this is because they feel like the French people are extremely rude. But the problem is not the French people, but the differences in culture. The way people talk to each other are just so different that it can lead to a temporal psychological breakdown with symptoms like paranoia or hallucinations.

𝕵𝖆𝖓 𝕸𝖆𝖗𝖐𝖚𝖘 such people don't deserve the title. Over-egoed mods really need to be warned or demodded. I'm in favor of having fewer mods on this platform to be honest and it may be time to prune a few. I feel that a lot of the community is quite self regulating anyway and perhaps some inappropriate or inactive ones need to be let go, although I have not seen too many bad mods lately, just inactive ones who are supposedly doing some work in the background.

𝕵𝖆𝖓 𝕸𝖆𝖗𝖐𝖚𝖘 that sounds like a fair process. It can of course unfortunately get corrupted or made too political by fake accounts, collusions, factions etc. but I get what you mean.

I was going to say, just return the rudeness but that's probably not good advice.

Sonic 𝕵𝖆𝖓 𝕸𝖆𝖗𝖐𝖚𝖘 Just to give my 2 cents into this discussion: Firstly, if you find a moderator is being rude to you, simply reporting them to other moderators to inform them of that moderators actions is all that you need to do. To escalate the situation would do no good, so please, if you feel a moderator is abusing his/her power, is being rude, or is not treating community members fairly, bring it to our attention and we will work it out with that mod. As for the moderators that we have now, I would say that we really do have an incredible group of people at the moment, all of which deserve to be given their role as a mod. Every single one of them certainly do their part in keeping SL regulated and help in enforcing the rules, and while some do most of their work behind the scenes, a lot of their contributions have been astounding and we wouldn't be able to do what we do without them. We don't need a democratic election to vote for who gets to become the new moderator, as that's just unnecessary for the way that SL is set up. The current mods typically choose those who we find would make good additions to the team, and if we find we need new mods, we'll let them know and ask if they would like to join. It doesn't really need to get more complicated than that, in my opinion, as to keep Sololearn free of politics and to keep it purely for learning how to program and to build your skills as a programmer among a community.

Do we need to get rid of some moderators? In my opinion, absolutely not. As I've said before, every single one of the moderators do their part in contributing to the regulation of SL, and those that can't at the moment are likely busy with their stuff, which is reasonable considering that Sololearn shouldn't be the priority in anyone's life. When it comes to the moderation itself, while it certainly is true that many users do have the tendency to moderate at their own free will, we do still need legitimate moderators around to make sure that nothing goes wrong and if it does, we'll have people with the tools to distinguish the issue. Having people simply tell others that they're breaking the rules isn't always enough, so it can't be assumed that we don't need mods around to keep everything regulated. As for how moderators get chosen, I would just like to say that Sololearn isn't a government of any kind - all it is is a platform where people can learn how to program among a community. (Continued)

I could be mistaken, but guess it might be the time for this question to be withdrawn from public, just so not to raise misunderstandings forward, as the "case" (if it may be classified) is closed. And probably for future reference, recommended answer for this type of query can be included in FAQ (just a thought).

Make a thread about it so everyone knows who your talking about were they can put pressure on the mod, so he stops being rude towards you, or contact sl and let them know
