Does the app send activation mail?

I received a mail that was asking me to activate my account. I clicked on that website. But I'm now bit worried about that link. Was it a spoofing link or did this app really send that mail?

Yes, the app sends the activation email to confirm it was really you. If you hadn't verified (you unlocked that badge), you wouldn't have been able to upvote (it would have prompted to verify your account)
Edit: To get a new activation email. Go to settings, profile, email. Then set a new email. Wait for activation email
