Calendar Pet Project

Question

I'm working on a small calendar program for a family member and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts or creative ideas for the project. I've done most of the basics already which allow me to populate one or several years of my choice accurately using a formula I found online. My end design at the moment is to use swing to have a calendar gui with the ability to select days to add notes, change months, and perhaps have a little customization with colors or images. If you have any ideas, that'd be cool.
