What is the difference between quotient and remainder

I know they're both division I'm just confused on when would you use each of them

Example... 6 divide by 4 = the answer is one and the remaining value is 2... So basically the quotient is the 1 and the remainder is 2... I hope u understood

Quotient is the answer gotten from dividing to numbers while is the number remain after dividing two numbers

FYI , This is basic math. You have Googled and gotten your answer. Anyway, the quotient is the whole number (integer) part of the result of division while the remainder is what is left over. For instance if you divided up 10 pieces of candy between 3 kids, each kid would get 3 pieces (quotient) with 1 left over (remainder) .
