What are the incentives to become a moderator?

I have noticed that some moderators spend a huge amount of time on this app. My guess is that they are good developers and that they have lives, so I wonder why they do it. Do they have an economical incentive? Is it just that they are good people who want to help others? I hope that I do not come across as a cynical, I just wonder if it would make sense for me in the future.

Helping others is just part of the equation. I'm not sure if I've said this before, but SL is actually an awesome pastime. Before you realize it, roaming the forums in search of answering questions has become a hobby, a second nature. As such, moderating on itself is the incentive. I certainly wouldn't mind some economical incentive ( ;> ) , but I believe I speak for the rest of the mods, when I say we would rather have the money fuel the development of SL instead.
